We are seeking an experienced Network & Security professional to join our Technology and Information Security function. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in complex environments, leads with confidence, and is committed to building secure, resilient, and high‑performing IT infrastructure.

Overview

The Network & Security Team operates within the Technology and Information Security function, responsible for delivering and maintaining a secure, resilient, and high‑availability network infrastructure. The team ensures that employees have access to reliable, secure tools and solutions aligned with organisational needs and industry best practices.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead daily Network & Security Team operations, plan sprints, track progress, and mentor staff.
  • Ensure service quality and compliance with ISO27001:2022.
  • Manage and support strategic projects, maintaining documentation and providing regular updates to the Team Lead.
  • Deliver technical guidance, staff training, and procedure‑related sessions.
  • Coordinate technical projects with external suppliers, ensuring proper requirements and timely delivery.
  • Maintain and support IT systems to ensure stability, availability, integrity, and reliability.
  • Administer office systems, Microsoft SQL databases, and Microsoft 365 email services.
  • Maintain security communication systems including CCTV, access control, and PABX.
  • Manage system applications, server upgrades, and network hardware improvements.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for installations, configurations, operations, and data management.
  • Oversee server backups, system health monitoring, and user account/permission management via Active Directory.
  • Identify and propose improvements to systems and internal processes.
  • Provide second‑level support and user training when required.
  • Liaise with hardware and software vendors and participate in IT procurement through government e‑tenders.
  • Review SLAs and ensure supplier compliance.
  • Contribute technical design concepts for new technologies and support after‑hours maintenance when needed.
  • Execute management‑assigned tasks and represent the organisation in court on IT‑related matters when required.
  • Support development and maintenance of information security policies and procedures.
  • Analyse, plan, and coordinate system security activities.
  • Monitor and investigate security alerts, audit logs, and incidents.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments, penetration tests, and security audits.
  • Implement and administer SIEM systems and manage security tools (AV, anti‑malware, web filtering, email anti‑spam).
  • Deliver information security awareness training.
  • Research, implement, and maintain new security technologies.
  • Execute the Disaster Recovery plan when the Business Continuity Plan is activated, including after‑hours involvement.
  • Develop and maintain Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans across hardware, software, connectivity, and web services.
  • Assess continuity implications of organisational or technological changes and coordinate plan updates.
  • Train employees with BCP responsibilities and ensure annual testing of all technical components.
  • Document policies, standards, and procedures related to IT security, IT risk, BCP, and DRP.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned occasionally.

Qualifications & Experience

  • MQF Level 6 in Computer Science with 4+ years of experience, or MQF Level 5 with 5+ years of experience.
  • Strong experience managing IT infrastructure: LAN/WAN networks, storage & backup, Active Directory, and Windows systems.
  • Solid understanding of network optimisation, IP networks, components, and troubleshooting tools.
  • Expertise in antivirus, intrusion detection, firewalls, and content filtering.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment, disaster recovery, forensic tools, and contingency planning.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA or MCSA are an asset.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide teams and maintain positive team culture.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and confident in managing complex, cross‑functional processes.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, planning, and communication skills.
  • Customer‑service oriented and able to work effectively in fast‑paced environments.
  • Fluent in Maltese and English.
