Our client is looking for a Senior Internal Audit Manager to join their Internal Audit Department. In this key role, you will lead and manage audit activities, including the planning, execution, and reporting of audits, ensuring robust internal controls as part of the third line of defence. Reporting to the Head of Internal Audit, you will play a crucial part in maintaining a strong internal control framework. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in internal auditing within the banking or financial services sector in Malta or the wider EU/EEA region.
Key responsibilities:
- Assist in developing and executing risk-based internal audit plans.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of the audit strategy, aligned with the organisation’s objectives and professional audit standards.
- Conduct walkthroughs and meetings with internal stakeholders to understand processes, procedures, internal controls, and areas of risk.
- Map processes under review and verify the design effectiveness of internal controls.
- Develop audit programmes in line with the established audit scope.
- Review documents, carry out testing, document workpapers, and draft audit reports.
- Prepare or review detailed audit reports that clearly communicate findings, recommendations, and action plans for senior management and the Board of Directors.
- Monitor and follow up with management on the resolution of audit issues and the implementation of recommendations.
- Supervise and coach junior team members, reviewing their work to ensure quality.
- Provide assistance to the Internal Audit Department on ad-hoc assignments throughout the year.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks in the banking sector to ensure audit processes remain relevant and effective.
- Assist in responding to regulatory and external auditor requests, ensuring smooth and efficient audit examinations.
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, offering expert guidance and education on audit matters to various departments and business units.
The ideal candidate will possess an ACCA qualification or a degree in financial services, with a preference for advanced certifications such as CPA, CIA, or CISA. They should have a minimum of 5 years of internal audit experience, including 2 years in a supervisory role, ideally within the financial services sector. Candidates must demonstrate broad expertise in areas such as IT, finance, operations, AML, and compliance, along with strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills. A thorough understanding of internal audit methodologies, risk assessments, and regulatory requirements is essential. Experience in banking processes and practices will be considered an asset.
