Our client is looking to recruit an MLRO to join their team.
In this role, you will act as the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO), with responsibility for ensuring that the organisation’s AML/CFT policies and procedures are continuously maintained and updated in line with applicable laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance. You will report directly to the Country Director in Malta.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintain and regularly update the firm’s AML/CFT policies and procedures in line with applicable laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance;
- Oversee the onboarding of new clients, including review and sign-off of Client Risk Assessments (CRAs);
- Identify and recommend to the Board any required enhancements to existing policies and procedures, including changes arising from legislative and regulatory developments;
- In collaboration with the Compliance function, conduct ongoing reviews of AML/CFT and sanctions controls and propose additional controls where necessary;
- Assess review findings, evaluate their impact, and determine whether updates are required to policies, procedures, controls, training, or related frameworks;
- Monitor the effectiveness of AML/CFT training programmes and identify areas requiring further or enhanced training;
- Develop and update AML/CFT training materials as appropriate;
- Provide guidance and ongoing support to client service teams in accordance with the firm’s policies and procedures;
- Attend relevant committee meetings as required and contribute to discussions on AML/CFT matters;
- Prepare management information and reports for senior management and the Board;
- Take day-to-day responsibility for the training, supervision, and performance management of junior team members;
- Review, investigate, and manage suspicious activity reports (SARs), including receipt, assessment, escalation where necessary, and ensuring correspondents are reminded of their obligations regarding tipping-off.
Experience & Expertise:
- A minimum of three years’ relevant professional experience;
- Strong decision-making ability, with the confidence to advise and guide board members and the organisation within the appropriate regulatory framework;
- Experience within financial and corporate services will be considered a strong asset;
- High level of self-awareness, with a clear understanding of personal impact on others;
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, enabling effective engagement with management and executive-level stakeholders, both internally and externally;
- Ability to handle sensitive situations within the immediate team in a tactful and professional manner;
- Proven ability to build credibility and establish strong working relationships with key internal stakeholders;
