Our client in the Fast Consumer goods industry is looking to recruit a General Manager. The GM is responsible for leading all operational, commercial and strategic functions of the Beverage Import & Distribution business. The role focuses on driving growth across the importation, brand management, distribution and retail of wines, spirits, beers, coffee, water and other beverage categories in Malta.

This position oversees business strategy, commercial performance, supplier relationships, operational efficiency, and high service standards while ensuring regulatory compliance and strong brand representation.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

- Set and execute the business strategy for importation, distribution and retail activities;

- Identify new market opportunities, categories and business development initiatives;

- Manage and grow the portfolio of international brands in collaboration with principals;

- Oversee pricing, product mix, promotions and channel strategies across retail, wholesale, HoReCa and e-commerce;

- Track market trends, competition and regulatory changes to recommend strategic actions;

- Ensure strong inventory management and efficient supply chain practices;

- Oversee retail operations, including cash-and-carry and online sales channels;

- Establish KPIs for supply chain performance, cost control and waste reduction;

- Collaborate with central functions—Distribution, Finance, IT, HR, Legal—to ensure aligned systems, processes and regulatory compliance;

- Lead the management team across sales, marketing, operations, finance and retail;

- Build a performance-driven, customer-focused culture;

- Ensure adherence to company policies, regulatory standards, health & safety and licensing requirements;

- Manage P&L, budgeting, cost structures and profitability targets;

- Identify and mitigate operational and commercial risks;

- Provide performance reports and strategic insights to senior leadership;

- Act as main liaison for international brand owners, ensuring excellent brand presence in the local market;

- Strengthen key customer relationships across all channels;

- Oversee brand marketing, promotions and trade activity with internal marketing teams.

Experience & Qualifications:

- High-level commercial, operational and managerial expertise;

- Strong understanding of FMCG, beverage markets and distribution strategy;

- Ability to lead teams, manage cross-functional operations and drive results;

- More than eight years of relevant experience, including senior leadership responsibilities; 

- MQF/EQF Level 6 or above; a postgraduate qualification (MQF/EQF Level 7+) is preferred.
